Everything below was read out of a PDF by a model It is useful and it is not authoritative. The document it came from is linked in the rail, and where the two disagree the document is right.

The report proposed continuing interim arrangements under which the Senior Coroner for West Sussex also acts as Senior Coroner for Brighton & Hove, alongside recruiting a part-time Area Coroner for Brighton & Hove. It sought agreement in principle to merge the Brighton & Hove and West Sussex coroner jurisdictions, subject to consultation and approval by the Chief Coroner’s Office, while maintaining local inquests and services.

Recommendation
The Committee was recommended to note the interim arrangements and proposed Area Coroner recruitment, agree in principle to the aims of the draft business case for merging the two Coroner’s Services subject to consultation and any required modifications, note the statutory consultation process, and authorise the Chief Executive and Executive Director for Governance, People and Resources to finalise proposals and enter into necessary agreements.
Financial impact
Both the interim arrangements and proposed merger are expected to be delivered within the existing Coroner’s service budget of £0.548m in 22/23; no additional cost is expected, and potential savings are unquantified.
