The assessment considers the equality impacts of consulting on reducing the Published Admission Number at nine Brighton and Hove primary and infant schools for September 2025. It recommends making the consultation accessible and improving engagement with disabled families, ethnic minority families, families using English as an additional language, and other underrepresented communities.

Recommendation
Proceed with an accessible consultation on the proposed reductions in Published Admission Numbers, using alternative formats, translated materials, online, telephone and virtual options, varied meeting times and locations, and targeted engagement through relevant services and community organisations.
Financial impact
Reducing surplus school places is intended to reduce the risk of schools incurring deficit budgets and implications for the council’s budget; no specific amount is stated.
